It snowed last night, the kind of wet snow that sticks to every branch. This morning, – even before coffee – I set out in the car with my camera. I have a broken toe, so I am limited to photography from the car, plus a few steps.
Winter photography from the roadside is a little nerve-wracking for me. Snowbanks narrow the roads and eliminate the shoulder, so I try to be very aware about pulling over in a safe place so as not to cause inconvenience for other drivers. Avoiding locking my keys in the car is another priority, and not just in winter!
This is my first photo of the day. I saw a lone crow at the top of the tree and had to stop. I love seeing crows in winter, black against white.
I managed one shot before it took flight, which I also photographed. I was grateful I had taken a moment in the driveway to select my camera settings, otherwise I would have missed out on both images. The lone crow is quite small relative to the entire image, so I decided to add the crow in flight from the second photo to this image.
I am participating in a weekly photo challenge called 52Frames. The theme this week is, “Leading Lines”. Leading lines – as the name suggests – carry the eye through an image and toward the main subject. Here, the obvious lines are the car tracks and the tree trunk, but my artistically-inclined daughter also pointed out the grass along the roadside and the hedgerow slicing the field, both of which lead to the tree and, finally, the crows.
