In Syracuse, New York we have a gorgeous rose garden in Thornden Park called the EM Mills Memorial Rose Garden. Dr. EM Mills had been the president of the Syracuse Rose Society and the American Rose Society. When the city purchased Thornden Park, Dr. Mills had been very ill. It was decided that a memorial rose garden would be designed and installed in honor of his contributions to the growing of roses.
A visit to the garden during peak season – late Spring, early summer – is a worthwhile venture. The roses and garden design are beautiful, and the roses are labeled so visitors leave with knowledge they may have not previously possessed.
